Every new parent wants his or her baby to have the care he needs to ensure the baby is healthy and happy. Caring for an infant’s vision is an important part of his total body health.
Many new parents share the misconception that their baby’s eyes will simply develop on their own with little or no involvement on their part. The truth of the matter is that a baby’s eyes need careful attention early in infancy to ensure proper health and development.
Early detection is crucial. Problems in a baby’s eyes can often be treated if discovered early. During the initial visit, the eye care professional will look for severe nearsightedness and farsightedness. They will also look for muscle control and the ability to move the eye, astigmatism, and any general eye health problems.
Here at Spektacles, we’ve made a commitment to be involved in the InfantSEE program, which provides for a free, one time exam for infants to check for eye and vision problems. The InfantSEE program is a public health initiative designed to improve children’s quality of life by making eye health available to everyone, regardless of ability to pay or income.
The American Optometric Association has partnered with Johnson and Johnson and Optometry’s Charity to create InfantSEE to ensure initial eye exams are available to every baby nationwide.
Spektacles is proud to do our part through the InfantSEE program to ensure babies in our community have access to eye care.
Parents can visit the InfantSEE page on our website to learn more about the program and get some information about the importance of eye care in infancy. Remember to contact our office to schedule your InfantSEE assessment.
